Official Visit of a Delegation from the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation to the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Slovenia

Upon the invitation of the President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Ernest Petrič, a delegation from the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation, led by the Court's President Dr Valery Zorkin, arrived on an official visit on Monday, 16 April 2012. The delegation included Vice President Dr Sergej Mavrin and Judge Dr Sergej Knjazev.

The judges of the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation and the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Slovenia have not yet held a bilateral meeting, thus this visit opened opportunities for further development and deepening of bilateral contacts in the future. In formal discussions the constitutional court judges exchanged experience regarding constitutional review, as well as the organisation and problems regarding the functioning of both constitutional courts. Special attention was devoted to problems regarding constitutional complaints and the relationship between national legislation and treaties.

The delegation of the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation was received by the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Danilo Türk, and the President of the Government, Mr Janez Janša, on Tuesday, 17 April 2012. On Wednesday, 18 April 2012, the delegation of the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation visited the Russian Chapel at the Vršič Pass and laid a wreath in memory of the Russian prisoners of World War I.

The delegation of the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation ended the official visit on Thursday, 19 April 2012.
