
Upon the invitation of the President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Slovenia, Mr Jože Tratnik, a delegation of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Portugal, led by the President of the Constitutional Court Dr Rui Manuel Gens de Moura Ramos, paid an official visit to the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Slovenia on Wednesday, 13 May 2009. The delegation also includes Judges Dr Ana Maria Guerra Martins, Dr Maria João da Silva Baila Madeira Antunes, and Dr Joaquim José Coelho de Sousa Ribeiro.
The members of the delegation of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Portugal and the Judges of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Slovenia exchanged experiences regarding constitutional review in their respective countries. They devoted special attention to the advantages and disadvantages of the constitutional review systems of both countries, which are to a certain extent similar, and to the possibilities of strengthening the role of the constitutional court so that it only decides important constitutional issues.
The delegation will also be received by the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Danilo Türk, the President of the National Assembly, Dr Pavle Gantar, the President of the Supreme Court, Mr Franc Testen, and the Human Rights Ombudsman, Dr Zdenka Čebašek Travnik.
The delegation of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Portugal will depart from Slovenia on Sunday, 17 May 2009.
