The XVIIth Congress of the Conference of European Constitutional Courts (CECC), hosted by the Constitutional Court of Georgia, was held from 28 to 30 June 2017 in Batumi. Such Congresses, organised by the CECC every three years, provide an extremely important pan-European forum for an exchange of opinions and experience within the region. The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Slovenia has been a full member of the Conference since 1994. The delegation of the Slovene Constitutional Court at this year’s Congress consisted of President Dr Jadranka Sovdat, Judges Dr Dunja Jadek Pensa and Marko Šorli, as well as Secretary General Dr Sebastian Nerad.

The theme of the XVIIth Congress was “Role of the Constitutional Courts in Upholding and Applying the Constitutional Principles”. Within the framework of the main theme and on the basis of the national reports submitted by the individual constitutional courts, the Congress focused on various questions related to constitutional principles. At the Congress, the President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Jadranka Sovdat, presented a contribution with the title “The Role of the Slovene Constitutional Court in Defining and Applying Constitutional Principles”.
