The official speaker at this year’s Constitutionality Day ceremony was Prof. Dr Marko Ilešič, Judge of the Court of Justice of the European Communities in Luxembourg, who addressed the participants on the significance of judicial power and the relationships between national and European courts.
The Constitutionality Day was attended by Dr Janez Drnovšek, President of the Republic of Slovenia, Mr Franc Cukjati, President of the National Assembly, Mr Franc Testen, President of the Supreme Court, and other high-ranking representatives of state authorities, religious communities and public life in the Republic of Slovenia.
The Constitutionality Day, which the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Slovenia marked with a solemn ceremony for the ninth time, is intended primarily to remind us not only of the position of the Constitutional Court as provided in the 1991 Constitution but also of the attachment to the protection of human rights, as was pointed out by Prof. Dr Janez Čebulj, President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Slovenia.
