On Wednesday, 7 February 2024, the President of the Constitutional Court, Dr Matej Accetto, attended the international conference “Law, Future Generations and the Environment”, hosted by the French Constitutional Council (Conseil Constitutionnel) in Paris.

The aim of the conference was to bring together judges from the highest national and international courts for a debate, under the Chatham House Rule, on the legal aspects of the concept of future generations and the related issues of access to justice, substantive standards of judicial review, and procedural options for the protection of their interests. The event was also organised in light of the planned Summit of the Future that will be held under the auspices of the United Nations General Assembly in New York in September 2024, which is expected to lead to the adoption of a special declaration on future generations, including a call for greater integration of the interests of future generations into legal regulations at national and international level.
